Langkawi Day 3

Posted on February 3, 2007 - Filed Under Uncategorized

I got up late on the last day in Langkawi and was walking aimlessly in the apartment not knowing what was the plan. I lazed around while waiting for Lingster to get ready for breakfast. We drove to Pantai Chenang again, in search for food. Having breakfast here is as good as eating in Gentings or at the airport. Nothing was cheap. If you are planning to save money on unnecessary expenditure especially on overpriced food, then best if you get bread or maggi mee the night before.

We dropped by at this small open air restaurant which had a great setting. There were so many ‘ang mo’s around and most of them were in bikinis. Lingster did give me a stare when i was caught checking out one of them. Hahaha.

Our orders did take some time to prepare eventhough it was only nasi lemak and croissant. While waiting, i cleaned my camera and so did Lingster. Yesterday while traveling from island to island, we did get showered by sea water especially when the boat was jumping up and down from wave to wave.

Lingster then started day dreaming and told me how much she missed eating cakes. It took at least 20 minutes for our orders to come and we gobbled down fast as we were fighting for time. Next we zoomed towards the north of Langkawi to Mount Mat Chinchang. There we took the cable car up to the top. If i am not mistaken, it cost us RM 25 i think

Comparison to Genting’s cable car, i would say Langkawi’s was definitely better in terms of scenery and cleanliness. The cable car starts at the Oriental Village which is on the way to the Seven Wells. Before purchasing your tickets, show them your MyKad and you would get discount.

The cable car ride isn’t as fast as Genting’s but it’s good enough to enjoy the scenery around. There’s a total of 2 stations. The middle one wasn’t fully operating when we were there, so we continued to the top.

My colleagues some how found out i was in Langkawi and one by one called or sms-ed me to buy them liquor -_-” Sorry ya, i already had my hands full that’s why couldn’t buy.

This was the view from the cable car. I really loved the 2 islands in the far distance. Both of it looked more like man made islands but i can’t really verify that.

Before we reached the 2nd and final station, we could see the structure and from far it looked like a toy or rather a structure that is temporary. As you can see there’s 2 viewing docks and a bridge which extends to right hand side where there’s another viewing dock.

This is the bridge that goes to the next viewing dock and to get there, we are required to do a little walking from the 2nd station. Would suggest girls not to wear heels if you plan to go over. Best if you put on your sports shoes or flat surfaced slippers.

When we stepped off the capsule, a gush of cold wind greeted us and it was really really cold. The station is built 700 meters above sea level and the view is simply breath-taking. Different viewing docks will have different scenery. Quite a number of visitors brought their tripods along and i myself would have brought but i was too lazy to carry it up and down. So i had to rely on my trusty hand and Lingster’s. This is Lingster at the first viewing dock.

We walked over to the 2nd viewing dock and realized there’s a house built on the mountain itself. I couldn’t take a picture cause it was too far. But i have heard a few people claiming that Tun Mahathir has a house up there.

After exploring both viewing docks, Lingster and i walked to the bridge through a small walkway. It’s about 5 minutes walk from the 2nd station. This place would be closed if there’s rain or lighting, so do check the weather earlier off. Somehow the pictures taken reminds me of ‘Thunderbirds’ :P

It’s a birdy ! No. It’s a plane !

The bridge was made famous in the movie ‘The Don’ where the Malaysian government pumped in so much of money to make sure interesting places such as this are well publicized. In a way it did work since i was so curious about this place.

This was the end of the other viewing dock. This was probably the coldest and windiest viewing dock. You would have to take your pictures and make way for others as many would queue up to take turns. Mostly would erect their tripods here and take their group photos :P

Once done, we had to walk back to the station. This is the reason why i suggested to the girls not to wear heels. Even with normal shoes, Lingster almost tripped.

The management couldn’t provide enough capsule for the ride down, so we resorted in taking this. I really wonder how would this place would be when it’s peak season. Even during low peak, the amount of tourist at this spot is amazing. The only concern i have about this cable car thingy is whether they would maintain the cleanliness like how it was.

Since we had fuel to burn and a little time to spare, we drove towards to the beach facing the 2 islands. We still had to pass the beach as there’s only one road, so we stopped there to make a fool of ourselves.

I was trying to look at the cable cars but failed to do so -_-” Behind me would be the 2 islands i mentioned earlier. I wonder why there’s no one on this beach. Another great place to take photos

If only i had more time on this beach, then i would have walked to the end of it but our boat was leaving in 3 hours time. Lingster was photographed more times compared to me and yet the sunburn on me was obvious. Maybe it’s her hair …. >_<" I can't stress more, bring along your sunscreen.

Finally i found a set of clouds which could be used in this shot. Before that, where ever we went the clouds were either scattered around or not to be found. I am sure you know who is the one in the picture above.

It was time to go back and check out. I really loved driving the Sentra and i don’t think i will ever have the chance to rent it again since it’s so expensive.

The trip to Langkawi was definitely a great one, where nothing was done in a rush but rather at our own pace. I never liked being pushed around just to make sure i covered all the tourist spots. I would love to return to Langkawi but it’s not going to be anytime soon.

Next stop would be another island or maybe KK :P

Conclusion:
1) Bring sunscreen
2) Empty bladder before any trip
3) Buy back breakfast if the food is expensive
4) Bring extra battery and a big memory card for your camera
