Dine @ Moussandra

Posted on February 16, 2007 - Filed Under dining

It’s Valentine’s Day and it has been a while since Lingster and i have actually gone on a real dinner. Though some may say it’s overpriced and overrated on this particular day but this was one of those days where i have my say on where to eat. Other than these few special occasions, Lingster will simple over ride my suggestions without any prior notice.

I was browsing through the net 3 weeks back to find a good place to dine and i came across Moussandra. It is located at KL plaza itself, beside Starhill. After checking out other alternatives, i decided to go for Moussandra based on the feedbacks i received. A reservation was done and all i had to do was wait for that very day.

Lingster somehow sensed i did plan something, so i had to make it look like we were doing a spontaneous plan to dine out for Valentine’s Day.

I had to convince her to leave campus at 5pm knowing that a jam could destroy my plan. As we left hostel, we had to make the customary security check at the entrance. Before the security guard gave us the green light to go, he said, “Selamat Hari Kekasih” -_-” What a major turn off, hahaha.

I made reservations at 7pm and i was stuck at Federal Highway at 6.15pm. The clock was ticking and i was anxious to get there. While waiting, Lingster said she had a small surprise for me.

I was dumbfounded when i got the present ! Hahaha, this is my first present from Lingster. Before that, i had actually made it clear that buying presents is just a waste of money. But knowing that she is a hard nut to crack, it was just a matter of time before i get one. Thanks a lot, Lingster ! :D

After parking at KL plaza, Lingster was still puzzled on where we were to dine. I gave her the impression of dining in Planet Hollywood. We walked and walked and walked …

We arrived at Moussandra sharp at 7pm and was then ushered to our table. Jamie, who was the person who arranged my reservation told me she was expecting a japanese guy judging from my name :P She then took our orders.

Lingster was still shocked cause she never saw this coming. In the car, she was thrilled when she manage to surprise me with her present but i had a better ‘come back’ installed for her.

The setting of Moussandra was more like those old Italian/Greek kinda theme. It’s definitely romantic and it looked as though we were dining in a wine cellar. The surrounding was further beautified with red candles being lit on each table.

There were couples around and all seem to be prim and proper. No one was playing around in terms of camwhoring. So we decided to get the ball rolling. We did get a few stares off and on but it didn’t really bother us.

At this point, i was dead hungry. I never had lunch and only had milo for breakfast. Whenever i am at a new place to dine, i always put a low expectation at the beginning, refraining from a major disappointed at the end. But my hunger wasn’t really helping. In my head, i was thinking, the food better be good :P

First up, Ensalada de Escalopas = Scallop Salad with sliced avocado and mango served with caviar and citrus red wine vinaigrette. Frankly, i am not a big fan of scallop but this definitely changed my hatred towards it.

We also ordered Calimari and eventhough it’s slightly more expensive than Italianese, it was tastier.

Later on, the garlic bread arrived. Didn’t get a good shot cause we were already busy eating :P

The garlic bread was slightly different as most places would serve the bread like those hot dog ones. But here, it was served in long sticks. Not too thin to be crispy and not to fat to be soggy. It was just nice.

My main dish arrived and it’s Costillas de Cordero al Horno = Aromatic breadcrumb lamb rack with oven backed potato accompanied with sauteed wild mushrooms and pearl barley served with orange honey brandy sauce. This dish is to die for. If only their serving was a bit larger :P The orange honey brandy sauce gives a different taste rather than the same old black pepper sauce which i am quite fed up with.

Shortly after mine arrived, Lingster’s main dish came. RED SNAPPER AL VINAGRE = Baked fresh red snapper fillet with red wine vinegar, roasted red pepper, sliced potatoes and fresh vegetables. The fillet was fresh and it breaks off easily, more like flakes. The taste was like a 360 degree turn comparing to mine. The sauce was very light and much suitable for the fillet. Of course i got confused when i started eating her fillet with my orange honey brandy sauce and vice versa

Finally, the dessert, Helado de Frutas = three flavoured layered ice cream with sponge cake and mixed fruits served with strawberry coulis and caramelized peaches. Nothing really special about the dessert except being sweet :P

After dessert, we continued camwhoring. We took pictures from different angles and backgrounds. Slowly we realized, the tables around us also started camwhoring. They even went to the extend of standing together or sitting on their partners lap. I guess the rest were just shy at the beginning.

Moussandra is definitely a place to drop by. With their great food and excellent hospitality i am definitely returning to this place in the near future.

After burning a hole in my wallet, we decided to stroll around.

Suddenly, we found ourselves in Beijing ?

The Chinese New Year decorations in KL plaza was very nice.

Before heading back, we dropped by at Lecka for ice cream. It’s my first time sitting in that opened air restaurant and i was wondering what happens if it rains.

To Lingster, thanks for the shirt and the card :X:X:X
