F1 - Sepang

Posted on April 16, 2007 - Filed Under experience

I know it’s kinda late to post up about Sepang when the drivers have already done driving in Bahrain. I was tied up with other commitments to even update my blog.

Lingster and I reached the circuit at around 1.30pm after going through a massive jam from the entrance itself. After zig zag-ing in and out the jam, we found a place to park. We didn’t know that our entrance was about half a kilometer away from the carpark. By the time i even reached the place, i was soaking in my sweat.

When we first arrived, there weren’t much people. I could still see people scattered here and there. We bumped into Victor and his buddy from Port Dickson. They were going to the main entrance to see the crowd and cars, so we tagged along since we had nothing to do till the race started.

There were plenty of Ferrari fans. From far i could see a sea of red crowd gathering at the main entrance. McLaren fans were also noticeable but i think most of them tried to keep a low profile, unlike the Ferrari fans who kept waving their flags and shouting their idol’s name as though they were there.

Everywhere i turned i could see something related to Ferrari and this fella from India made a triple flag pole into one and kept chanting, “Ferrari, Ferrari, Ferrari ! “

Everyone wants to show off their support to their team. From flag poles to women. When i reached this place, this lady was dancing like as though she was in trance. Anyone who was armed with a camera, started taking her photo. Nope she wasn’t that pretty but her dressing probably made most of the men think other wise.

It was close to the starting of the main opening and people just kept pouring into the covered hillstand. We could hardly find a spot to even sit and hard to walk towards the middle to get a good spot.

Out of the blue, Negaraku was heard glaring out of the speakers around us. Everyone started looking at each other and we all stood up like patriotic Malaysians, ahem. I could even hear some saying, ” Do we really need to do this ? ” while others chuckling away.

Even the foreigners stood up to show their due respect to our national anthem. I was kinda surprised cause the last time i was here but at the grandstands, i realized the foreigners didn’t really bother :P

The picture above is the man who sat right in front of us. I saw his side profile a couple of times and he looks more like someone i have seen before somewhere. Even Lingster kept saying he had the same shirt on and similar hairdo.

Simon Cowell in Sepang ?

Time did passby fast and unfortunately, Lingster and i rooted for Kimi to win but a dumbass mistake from Massa made it hard for him to capture top spot. At least Massa did redeem himself in Bahrain yesterday. As everyone started walking towards the exit, the crowd started building up. I don’t understand why can’t they open the gates instead of making everyone go thru the small entrance. This actually bottled neck the movement and we had to stay in line for 10 minutes or so.

As Lingster drove off, I saw this Singaporean car which was badly damaged. He or she must have got into an accident before reaching Sepang.

All in all, i would say it was a so-so experience for me in Sepang and Lingster said she wouldn’t come back unless she gets the tickets for free. I too felt the same. I rather have myself sitting in my comfy chair while watching the race on my 17″ screen with commentators updating non-stop.

Go Kimi !
