My MyVi windscreen cracked

Posted on May 23, 2007 - Filed Under personal

I was on my way to Serdang with lingster and dranreb for lunch when the incident happened. As i was exiting Cyberjaya into LDP, i heard a loud ‘thud’ but didn’t know where the source was from. I slowly cruised at the shoulder of the road while trying to figure out if anything happened to my car.

Lingster suddenly started yelling at me saying my windscreen got a small crack.

At that very moment, i would have screamed my heads off cause the car was only a few months old but i kept my cool and acted like it was nothing. You know ler, the ego especially in front of your friends.

I stopped my car at the side to see the damaged windscreen from outside. The cause of it was unknown and i was already day dreaming thinking this is one of those days where things happened without any concrete reason. I got myself in the car and decided to get the windscreen done first thing after tomorrow’s paper. Yeap i had my finals and i had to crack the screen just before it.

Lingster was kind of pissed with my ‘dun-care’ attitude and she stood out of the car, looked around before raising her voice that it could be the grass cutter’s fault while pointing at them.

It was definitely logical and definitely better than what i conceived earlier -_-” I told her never mind, i don’t want any trouble, furthermore i need to be back soon to study. Dranreb too thought i should just close one eye. But lingster was adamant and i was forced to reverse my car to them.

When i confronted them, they said they were new in Malaysia and had no idea that the force generated by their grasscutters could launch a pebble which eventually broke my screen. I told them to cut the crap and get their boss on the phone.

I spoke to their supervisor and was asked to drive to a shop behind Puchong Tesco where they specialized in windscreens alone. So we went over to the shop and by now my stomach was already grumbling. Lingster had her Philharmonic Orchestra playing at full throttle.

True enough, the owner of the shop greeted me with a smile and asked if i was the one who called the maintenance supervisor for LDP earlier on. I replied yes and he told me not to worry as this is common with that company. He told me it would take at least an hour to get the windscreen fixed.

As we were talking, his workers got on with the job of replacing the windscreen. He showed me two types of windscreens, one was the original MyVi windscreen and the other one was original Toyota Passo windscreen. He told me since the supervisor wasn’t there yet, i could choose either one. I was tempted to choose the Passo screen but reluctantly told him that will stick with the MyVi screen.

One thing about cars is that i never like dismantling any part of the car once it has left the factory. Even when i was putting on the tint and had to see them strip my doors naked, my heart ached.

And now with my new car, i had to see them do things that shouldn’t happen for the first few years, at least.

We had our lunch at a nearby hawker stall and returned in time to see them install the new windscreen. By then the supervisor was already there and he paid for the new screen. However, he told me he was not paying for my tint as it didn’t come with the stock car. It was definitely a stupid excuse but it didn’t really bother me, well at least i got my screen fixed.

The workers mounted the screen on to the car and the screen was held by some kind of glue which will take around 48 hours to dry. I was told to slow down when there are speed bumps and do not go above 100km/h for the time being.

Two giant super duct tape were pasted on my car to the new screen, to hold it up till the glue underneath it dries. I know it looks funny with the tape on my car. Looked more like I pasted them myself so that the screen doesn’t flip off when i hit the roads.

I am driving back to Penang in two days time and i expecting some ‘fireworks’ to happen when my parents see me -_-” At least Lingster saved my ass and now i don’t have to fork out for the windscreen.

Quote from Lingster: “If it wasn’t your fault, then it’s definitely someone else’s. So make sure you find that someone and make them pay !”

My Myvi rear windscreen was cracked due to grasscutting activity too. Had it replaced. It’s cheaper than replacing the front screen cos it’s smaller. I had it done in Perodua service - it’s in Subang itself.
