Visit Malaysia 2007 ?

Two thousand seven marks 50 years since Malaysia has received her independence. In conjunction with this, the government has put a lot of effort in promoting Visit Malaysia 2007. From having double decker buses in London with posters on it to having a Shah Rukh Khan movie flick shot in strategic places around Malaysia.

So since it’s Visit Malaysia 2007, i thought this should be the best time to actually visit the places i have always wanted to go to.

I started off earlier this year with Langkawi and boy oh boy, i wasn’t disappointed except maybe for the food which was tagged with cut throat price. Anyway, the cable car was worth it and i seriously recommend to anyone who is planning to go to Langkawi, don’t forget the cable car. It’s somewhere near the seven wells i think.

Back in KL, i don’t have the luxury to move around and rely heavily on public transport. Lingster made it a point to bring me to some places mainly the Science centre, the Museum and the Planetarium.

To start things off, i chose the Science Center first. From a distance the building looks pretty impressive. Reminded me of the Allianz Stadium in Germany. The entrance wasn’t impressive and it looks shaddy. When i got to the middle of the building, i was surrounded by kids jumping up and down equipments that hardly work. It was more like a spoilt playground, just that it was air conditioned. I did take a couple of pictures but i don’t think it deserves to be even shown.

Next we headed to the National Museum. I have always passed that building but never once have i set my foot in it. Just like the Science center, the entrance was boring. I bought my tickets from the guard which cost me 2 bucks. I walked up to the first floor and saw all the different costumes of our different cultures in Malaysia …. and that was it.

Nothing else. I asked the guards why there aren’t much things in the Museum and she replied that the place is under renovation. I assumed it should be done within a couple of months since it was Visit Malaysia 2007 but i was wrong. As i left she told me to come back next year as the renovations should be done by then -_-” I see tourists arriving in bus loads and i can’t imagine what they will be thinking when they visit a museum with only one section functioning.

We walked over to the Planetarium and found out it closes on Mondays. Lingster said she would bring me back some other day but i declined. If the Museum and Science Center are already in that state, i wouldn’t know what to expect in the Planetarium.

Now i realized why most people say when it comes to Museum, don’t bother visiting and if it’s the Science Center you wanna go, try Singapore Science Center.

Maybe Visit Malaysia 2007 is mainly focused on the accommodation, shopping and food. But even with that, i don’t see why these few places can’t be up kept and maintained. Personally i felt disappointed and it was definitely a waste of time.

I wonder what the National Zoo got to offer …

Young generations like us don’t even realize the existence of the place anymore. It’s a shame how the government let our heritage get destroyed just like that. Those places was in a way better condition when I last went bout 6 years ago. I think they shouldn’t just upkeep it but to also add on new stuff.

Food prices in Langkawi is indeed very expensive. Check my Langkawi posts on my blog… (use the search function).

Screw man… They think money can just flow in if we just put up banners and advertisements. The zoo is in a sorry state too. Don’t bother visiting if you can’t stand to see animals suffering. I read in the newspaper recently, someone wrote in to complain about the way animals are being treated in the zoo.

What the hell is wrong with this country, man. And some people are happily jumping off planes (skydiving) in the North Pole, and next, maybe repeat their so-called ‘feat’ in Mecca. Did you read about the records they’re filing with the skydiving they did in the North Pole? Sigh man…

lingster: yeah that’s what i thought, adding new things is also vital. the same old thing will bore ppl.

neo: checked out your blog on the langkawi trip. thanks for the tip

narrowband: that bad ? i am definitely not paying to see animals in a bad state. regarding the records and things they are doing at the northpole, i have nothing to say about it. the last thing i know about the north pole thingy, the lady is gonna write a book on her journey back there.
