Photo Hunters - Heavy
A few weeks back i had the chance to be back in Penang for Thaipusam and i have to say this week’s theme suits well with the pictures i have to share. Every year the kavadis (the gadgets carried on the shoulders by devotees) gets bigger and more colourful. It looks heavy and the devotees will have to carry it for a good 4-5km before reaching the temple.

Some of the kavadis are too big and heavy that it requires a few people to help navigate into the temple and i can tell you it’s no easy task. Besides carrying kavadi, some devotees pierce their skin, tongue or cheeks.

I couldn’t get a clear shot because my hand kept shaking as i was shoved by people around me :P These devotees had small pots pierced to the front part of their body. This is definitely pain and heavy since it’s easily 50-100 pots hung on their chest.

The back is also pierced and attached to a decorated vehicle which will be followed to the entrance of the temple. For more information about this festival, you can read more on Wikipedia :)

Have a great weekend everyone ;)

I have never been to a Thaipusam celebration before, although I live in Penang for N years. @.@ I guess for every festive season, I only think of traffic jam. Haha! :D

Painful mayhap but it’s quite unique to have it as part of Malaysia.

By the way, about the kavadis in the first photograph. That one looks immensly tall and there are banners hung over that looks pretty low. Was there any risk the kavadis got entangled? That thought scares me the most! :D
