When i first saw the theme for this week, i knew i needn’t look any further but to feature my secondary school known as Penang Free School :) The word free there doesn’t imply that the students study there for free but it was to show that the school is opened to all students of different religion or belief.

Here’s a brief description of my school taken from Wikipedia:

Penang Free School is the oldest English School in Malaysia and the South East Asia region. The school founded by Rev. Sparke Hutchings in the year 1816 on October 21st., is located on the island of Penang, Malaysia. The Motto of the school is Fortis Atque Fidelis (pronounced for ‘tiz ud’ kway fi’ deliz) which is a Latin phrase for Strong and Faithful.

Have a great weekend everyone ;)

I like the motto of your old school. Strong and Faithful, 2 very powerful and meaningful words :)

If I didn’t read further into your post, I might just have thought F-O-C school :P

Strong and faithful, words that mean so much. Thank you for sharing about your school, its like the school of my eldest daughter, they have different religions (with different teachers) and they have children with special needs. Talk about diversity.

    Have a great weekend!

  28. 3POINT8 (Reply) on Saturday 16, 2008

Funny….aren’t all schools open to students of different religion or belief?

  29. satkuru (Reply) on Saturday 16, 2008

3POINT8: back in the early 19 century the english schools were only meant for the Britains and children of high ranking officers :) so this school was opened to give equal opportunity to everyone :D

  30. mama meji (Reply) on Saturday 16, 2008

Oldest! Wow. Thanks for sharing some facts and a photo of your school. Schools should indeed be open for all despite race, religion, status…

Anyway, I’m asking something for free- your vote. Have the details in my blog. Thanks and have a wonderful weekend.
