Surviving on loose change

Published by in personal on April 7th, 2010

I have done it last year and I am doing it again this year. Probably some of you must be wondering what am I talking about.

Last week I ran out of cash and instead of driving to the bank, I decided to live off my loose change. Coins collected for the past 5 months were used for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Personally I was wondering how long could I last with my coins? The people that I pay to are usually on both extremes; either they hate your guts or love you. Last Saturday I was in a rush back and so I asked for take away. When I was told it’s RM 8.40, I removed RM 1.60 as I had 10 ringgit worth of coins. The fella gave me a long stare and started counting one by one LOL. Can’t blame him also. You wouldn’t want to be short changed at the end of the day.

Last year I lasted on loose change for 3 days and this time I managed to get from Wednesday till ….

… Sunday !

That’s 5 days worth of coins lying around in my room.

My loose change usually comes from parking machines that can’t dispense notes and you get tonnes of coins instead.

I wonder if anyone out there that have coins left in a bottle or drawer like me?

    Oh yes I do have … a lot :)
I also do have the habit like yours where I can last a couple of days just on coins. And oh yes, some will stare and some will love you for it. The tricks is to do this early of the month or early of everyday .. they love coins.

I still my my piggy bank from primary school, the AmBank camel mascot one.
I think there’s about RM30-50 worth of coins in it, all from those changes during lunch.
Normally I used for parkings, and when I have to survive the end of months, I’ll either change the foreign currency i have with me (thai baht / china renminbi)) or use those loose change.

I got coins amounted to m11.80 in my office’s desk, unknown amount in my red purse coin and unknown lot in my Ambank mosque coinbox (half fulll i assume). I guess that can last me 365 days of breakfast. Hehe.

    Kia dimsum? :)
