I suddenly had the inspiration to blog about Cambodia again after Chiaw Yin passed a very random statement over on Facebook.

“Mr Shiya is very good”.

I was cracking my head on who is this fella and why is she telling me this. Then it clicked me ! Mr Shiya aka Siya was our tourguide in Siem Reap and i used to call him as Ya. I knew Chiaw Yin was in Siem Reap not long ago but i never knew she also got him as her guide.

The best part was, she said he still remembers me ! ^.^

But to be frank, he is one hell of a guide, to be honest. Though we occasionally teach him the wrong things in Hokkien, hahahaa. I really hope the guide i am getting in Indonesia would be as good and enthusiastic as Siya

Back to my writing, I am still in 3rd day of Siem Reap of the 4 days we were there. The picture above shows a note from one of the kid saying she isn’t well to do and she supports the family by selling books. The thing about the kids, they really look pitiful but if you don’t play their game then you will just end up being cursed. As for the books, after closer inspection you would noticed that it’s photocopied. Just the cover is coloured. So yeah bargain hard.

We were back in Angkor Wat after having breakfast in Jasmine Lodge. By this time around in the day you would see plenty of tourists flocking by the bus loads to the main entrance. Security is tight as usual. So it’s advisable to keep your daily pass properly at all time.

Sometimes i wondered how the people of the that time used the stairs ? Were they all using their four limbs like Emily and Ai Ling ? Btw, this is the library. For some reason, this is the only part of Angkor Wat that i can remember well. LOL my memory damn bad T.T

The women in this trip are really hardy women, hahaha. No joke. I was worried at the beginning on how would they handle such situation where dust, heat and walking are common in this trip. Cha Bo power, rofl. For their hardiness, the upcoming trip to Bali should be a little challenging. Let’s see how the sister no. 1,2 and 3 handle

We were in Angkor Wat until late evening before heading back to wash up.

For dinner, we were brought to Amazon Angkor Restaurant. Here the dinner served is buffet style and there’s a huge variety of food but the main attraction is the performance. Different styles of dance by the locals are performed during the whole course of the dinner. It’s kinda touristy and commercialized so it may not appeal to those who only wants hardcore local standards.

As for me i loved it. I mean after walking like cow for hours, i just wanted to sit and enjoy my food with some ambiance and this place was perfect.

After dinner we went for walk walk at their night market. Everyone started to unleash their bargaining skills, buying what they could afford. Price wise it’s really cheap, especially when you buy in a big quantity. So if you are in group, gather a few to buy.

But if the price doesn’t appeal to you, you can try the stalls out of the night market. Since they are slight out of the main area, they would be able to lower down even more. But if that also not good enough for you, then just go to the old market place. You can get shirts are 2ringgit there, lol. The down side is the place starts to close down at 9.30pm unlike this Night Market. Further more the atmosphere here is much better.

Before heading back to call it a day, we headed to the local so called pub. I had their Angkor beer but Aaron decided to do one better

Coming from a closely-knitted family and being always stuck in front of the computer all day long, i never liked clubbing. In fact the ones in Penang are usually in town and i was living on the other side of the island, …

in a kampung …

… called Kampung Jawa.

The most happening place in Kampung Jawa was this mini mart called Sui Wah and that’s it. I grew up and left for my degree, Sui Wah grew up and it’s now Sunshine Square, still the most happening place around Kampung Jawa.

Shifting to Melaka and KL to further my studies did open my eyes big big, well it depends on how you interpret my sentence. I think i have gone to pubs and clubs in KL more times compared to Penang.

Actually in Penang i have only gone once … -_-”

That also my friend drank my share of the beer, swt.

Last year was the first time i attended Hennessy Artistry where Flo Rida was the main guest artist and i tell you that event alone changed my perception on clubbing and parties. That’s like a different class all together. I was there as a hired paparazzi photographer. People just kept tapping on my shoulder asking me to snap their pictures. At that point of time, i was still new into photography and it was a good training ground for night photography. I just learn/work better under pressure.

That night i remembered roaming around the place snapping and changing lens whenever a different artist appears and that got me thirsty. Tired you know.

Even with Angeline constantly reminding me not to drink a lot since it was free flow BUT it fell on deaf ears.

I first asked for a coke but probably the fella didn’t hear and poured Hennessy only. Not even mixed. Gulp down 2 cups and i felt one kind, lol.

That night i think i drank 6 cups all together and i think that’s my limit cause i wasn’t drunk or floating. So yeah i drank responsibly, lol. Enough of the drinking but Flo Rida definitely brought the house down !

The following year, i was invited by Yatz and since i had an extra pass, i dragged Mr Canon-in-D aka Wei Chung along. I have always told everyone i knew, that they should try to attend Hennessy’s events.

Though i was equipped with my camera but i barely took any photos. A few hours before that i was at my sister’s convocation in Melaka. My GPS made things worse. Searched for Bukit Kiara as a reference and it brought me to Seremban -_-” I was more or less tired when i arrived.

While i was enjoying the surrounding, suddenly i heard people saying, ” Eh look, mini jay chou.”

I was like who ?

Ok ler, he does have a slight resemblance of Jay Chou.

Wei Chung and Lih Ren. All three of us have known each other since end of 2003. Or was it 2004 ? Nevertheless, all kawan lama

Speaking of partying and clubbing, the most recent one i attended was at Ministry of Sound for Juice’s Birthday Bash.

The main space in the middle shakes because of the crazy-ass bass and that makes everyone dance, lol. I was with Leang, Yatz, Lih Ren and Joshua. They kept telling, ” Snap only don’t worry !”

So yeah i went around snapping.

One thing i have learnt that night was don’t, don’t ever put maximum power for the flash gun. Why ?

Cause the artist would be flash banged for no reason >.<!

Bad move.

Joshua was showing me how to enjoy the songs, lol. Lih Ren and Yatz just stared in blurness

The dance floor was really vibrating like mad. So some of the people got onto the platform where the artist was and started dancing.

The girls that happened to snap earlier too got on to the platform and now only i realized why some of them were wearing sunnies. So that they won’t go blind if someone flashes. Wait, that sounds wrong -_-”

Then suddenly the rest of the fellas kept shoving me saying, wei look look on the stage. This couple was really get it on. Am i invading their privacy ?

Btw my kampung is damn real, ok. Not made up one.

I am finally back!

Well let me say that i am very excited to see what 2009  have installed for me. In slightly more than a week from now, i will be off to Cambodia for 6 days with 6 friends of mine and that is definitely gonna  have me missing  from my blog yet again.

The idea of Cambodia was first conceived when i was strolling about on the sandy beach of Redang Island after a crazy day at Nipple Island. Initially, in the morning, i received a call from my mum saying i had cheques from Nuffnang and that she had already banked it in. Knowing i had extra cash in hand, i jokingly asked William and Angeline, …

“Come let’s go Cambodia ….”

William was fast to say he was in. I can’t even be sure if he even took time to think

Angeline on the hand took probably a few seconds longer before agreeing to join the bandwagon …

… and that’s how things got rolling. One by one the rest joined in, Lee May, Aaron, Ai Ling and Emily. I am excited, everyone is excited cause no one knows what is gonna happen as our plans are kinda sketchy. Keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes as planned

Personally i am definitely happy with how Nuffnang has changed the blogosphere especially in Malaysia (… and also in the other countries that they are invading). Thanks to them, i have the extra moolah which enabled me to get my flight tickets to Cambodia.

On the side note, also related to Nuffnang, this coming Saturday would be the auditions of Malaysian Dream Girls in Kuala Lumpur which is also the final audition for this season.

Merry New Year everyone !

P/S: I just realized my last entry was written last year >.<! LOL

I finally got my hands on my Mamma Mia-the musical ticket. Initially the money saved was to be used to watch Russell Peters in Singapore but since that show is already sold out, i got this ticket without hesitation.

Upon reaching the Axcess counter in One Utama, there was already a line and it just kept growing. The show is definitely a hot seller but then again, some people are just too slow in getting their tickets. One couple for instance took more than 20 minutes plus to get theirs. Even the aunty in front of me was complaining how ignorant they are.

Later on we found out it was a mother and daughter -_-”

When it was our turn to get the tickets, we pin point the date and seats that we wanted and we were done. In and out just like that. I even jokingly told the person behind the counter, “See i was fast …”. And he laughed

… so after all the comotion of Murni being closed down by the authorities or like their banner said, “We are closed for Hari Raya”, they are finally opened again. For some reason, the shop itself looks slightly cleaner than usual. Those waiters had a cap and apron on … lol. Never ate anything but i did drink Honeydew Special and that itself made me full -_-”

Speaking of food, for the past 9 days i have been vegetarian and finally today i was out lunching with William that i had non veg food. Not that i am not used to being vegetarian but the timing was so bad that most stalls around Cyberjaya were closed. So obtaining even food was even a challenge.

So for lunch, i was greedy that i filled my plate with as much dishes as possible -_-” There long beans, fried egg, sweet&sour chicken and fried luncheon meat ….

…. and now i am stuffed.

… probably i should nap …

… hmmm i shall nap after i have watched South Park

On the way to the Curve, William asked if i could feel his rear left wheel wobbling and i said yes but it wasn’t that obvious unless if i wasn’t been told about. So the assumption was his car needs allignment.

But we thought wrong and on the way back from the Curve the inevitable happened …

The tyre blew and the next thing we knew, we were on the side of LDP just before Western Digital. The last time i encountered a ‘phailed’ tyre was with Bernard and all we did was called up David, LOL. But this time around William single handedly change it himself. Steven, Jess and I just stood there like dodo birds, hahaha.

Probably William was trying to show his macho-ness …

William insisted that he should be photographed. So that’s what i did … i whipped out my handphone, snapped a couple of shots and mms-ed to a bunch of people @_@

We were stranded for barely half an hour before moving again.

Moral of the story: Please please check/service all tyres and not only the front pair and please, if you noticed that the tyre is getting bald, change it -_-”

P/P/S: I received a comment not too long back and i thought it was worth adding it to the entry as everyone should know the danger of changing tyre on a highway or even a normal trunk road. Thank you anonymous

What you did was very dangerous. Many people have died from what you guys did. You should never change a tyre on the highway, not even on the emergency lane. A car or another vehicle travelling at high speed would hit you.

The advisable thing to do was to continue driving (even if it means destroying your wheel/tyre) off the highway to a safe location, then only change your tyre. At least you gain a life.

When my mum calls it’s either to inform me what one of my siblings have achieved or to ask when i am coming home @_@ And this time it was about my youngest brother …

MUM: You brother appeared in the papers again … (local papers at the current country he is in)
ME: Ooo what did it say ?
MUM: The headline was Malaysia dominates Holland and it said that he had earlier rocked the Dutch-speaking nation’s batting with 4-23.
ME: … rocked ???
MUM: And they also said that Holland’s batting fell away as they crumbled against his spins to be bowled out for 133 from 40.4 overs.
ME: Ma i dunno what those numbers mean but i am happy he won, hehehe.
MUM: Yeah of course you must be happy, so what you did for today ?
ME: Well since Holland came crumbling down to his spins, i here broke my mug.
MUM: Broke your mug ???? You dropped it ?
ME: No ler, i merely held it by the handle and it broke @_@
MUM: You got nothing better to do is it ? breaking your own mug … what else you did ?
ME: … my bathroom slippers got stolen …

Well you see my brother represents the country for Cricket and besides excelling in his studies, he also excels in the game and it’s really hardcore pressure for the rest of us, LOL. He is merely 16 and he is in West Indies whooping Holland in a game of cricket. And what i did so far for the day? I broke a freaking mug ….

A few weeks back, i was called out by Hung Wei to join him in a fashion show shooting at Sungai Wang. Since it was a Friday and i had nothing better to do, i joined him but just to find out the fashion show was more on the hairstyles. SUPER MAJOR POTONG STIM CAN ?

So what we did ?

We snapped ourselves instead, LOL. Anston, Hung Wei and Fattien.

Then Hung Wei was showing me how get pictures with trails of lights. Still have so much to learn about the settings @_@ After that we adjourned for dinner by then Fattien had already left for Kelana Jaya

Hung Wei brought us to this place called Gasoline in Times Square and i was quite taken up with their setting but if only the food could be equally impressive. Nevertheless when you are hungry, anything will taste good

So the first outing for fashion show ended up as a disappointment which explains why there’s no picture of the show in this entry.

Then a few days back Kheng Jin asked me to join him at One Utama for another fashion show shooting. I agreed but i met up with Lingster first since she was there to shop. Before heading for the shoot, we had lunch and even manage to cramp in a movie, The Kite Runner.

I forgot what i ordered but it’s fish with some sour kinda gravy which tasted like those indian gravy called rasam. It was weird having that kinda gravy for the fish which was suppose to be western style The other main course was fish and chips.

And for dessert there’s Cookie and Cream and some Sundae thingy, LOL

Why do everyone take pictures of me when i am least ready ? @_@ It’s either that or the picture turns out blur, LOL

After the movie i rushed to snap a few shots of the fashion show and frankly i had no idea what i was looking for. hahaha. I was blindly snapping most of the time. Some of the shots taken didn’t even do any justice to the models @_@

LOL check out the girl on the left. Looked like she’s gonna stomp the floor @_@ Hahaha. Imagine these are the only few pictures that turned out better than the rest, LOL. I am better off snapping random people with candid pose

I wonder if anyone has tried barbequing in the rain ? We tried …. and it didn’t work But that’s not the point of this entry. After planning and getting accommodation for the KL people, everything was in order for the End Year BBQ Party at Golden Sands Beach Penang.

Some of us parked far away and had to walk for a good 5 minutes with things to carry, from chicken to tables, from charcoal to umbrellas (which came in quite handy later on).

Some of us did notice that it was already raining further down but to instill the spirit of optimism, we carried on unloading all the equipment to start the fire. Some went further by camwhoring on the beach

A human shield was formed to block the wind till we manage to get the fire started. Just as we started to unpack the chicken, it started pouring like bears and rabbits. The wind was also blowing violently which managed to wreck my umbrella which opened upwards -_-”

Everyone then gathered at a nearby shelter before heading over to the apartment but just to find out that it was already occupied. Long story short, we had no where to go and we had a bunch of hungry people. We finally ended up at JJ’s place which big enough to accommodate all of us.

Before that i joined some of the shouters at Tesco for some shopping.

I didn’t even know there’s a list for the things to be purchased.

“You think people will like the fat one or the long one ?”

As i said earlier, since it rained we changed venue and JJ was nice enough to provide a place for all of us to barbeque Of course we can’t BBQ under the roof, so we set the equipment on the road and blocked traffic.

This two kept feeding me with riddles that came with the lamest answers and most of the time i was forced to answer it -_-” JJ, Daniel and Joey too kept pumping in riddles after riddles. I swear to God, after that party my IQ dropped substantially. It was really fun seeing how people reacted when the answers were told.

What’s the difference if a person were to jump off a building from the 2nd floor and another person who jumps off the 10th floor ?

Anyone knows the answer ? Yes yes its a lame answer, so don’t think too hard

I have to say JJ was definitely a good host. He even fed us with loads of chicken wings but i was already stuffed before the chicken wings were ready. Had too much Char Bi Hun and Coke -_-”

The total amount of people attended were so big that it broke down to a few groups. This was one of it. All they did was play cards. Chor Tai Tee or Black Jack, you name it and i am pretty sure they have played it a couple of times Why never put in money ler this people ? -_-”

The Barbeque session wouldn’t have been completed without a cake. No ? Hahaha i myself was shocked when i was told that there’s a cake too. My eyes literally popped out when i saw that the logo of shoutout is even on the cake

Here’s the thing, i am always behind my own camera and i haven’t mastered taking my own pictures yet So for the time being i shall rely on pictures taken by others and in this case, SaeWei so happened had 3 pictures of me in it. We had a chicken eating competition and there’s only one miserable participant. He eventually won the grand prize which was another piece of chicken.

Deepavali this year was a bit different. My family decided to come down to KL and spend the weekend with me and my sister instead of us going back. So knowing that both of us won’t be back anytime soon, mum packed tonnes of cookies. Of course i was delighted but then again, this is the only time of the year where my face looks like the moon crater. Chocolate cookies, jam tart, murukku, mixture and many more contributed to the attack of the pimples -_-” I don’t face the same problem during CNY. Maybe because kuih kapit, the turtle cookies, etc can hardly do anything

OXY was useless, i even tried Simple and in the end i resorted in this. It stings at the beginning but it definitely got rid of the pimples fast.

We stayed at the Berjaya Times Square and it was the next best thing to home since i am still stuck in my hostel. It’s a two room apartment that has a small hall and kitchen. This is the main room.

The hall aka my room -_-” Yeap i slept on the sofa. But still …. very much better than hostel.

This is the second room. Each room has it’s own tv so none of my sibblings nor my parents bothered watching tv programs in the hall. Berjaya Times Square has always been the place where my parents would stay if they ever came down to KL but this is the first we stayed on the left wing which oversees Pudu Jail -_-”

That night Lingster was suppose to meet up with her Singaporean colleagues over at Sky Bar. So being a gentleman, i accompanied her actually i was forced to follow. I have never been to Sky Bar so i took this opportunity to tag along.

The concept is similar in many ways to Luna Bar. For instance having a swimming pool in the bar area. The swimming pool actually functions as the Hotel’s swimming pool by the day unlike Luna Bar. But what ever it is, having a swimming pool in a bar is brilliant

KLCC looks magnifico from here and if you are lucky enough, you can even see Genting Highlands

Patrons sit in large cubicles overseeing part of KL city. Unfortunately for us, we had to sit on wooden chairs as our group was too big. And to make matters worst, it started drizzling.

I forgot to mention that the roof is as such where it isn’t covered. So basically when it pours, the people sitting nearest to the pool will be affected and in this case, we were -_-” So we had no option but to find alternative place. No no not alternative sitting place but a different bar all together.

So we headed to Asian Heritage Row and walked into one of the bars.

Mind you, i am not a heavy drinker. More like a social drinker and a social drinker that only takes one glass Lingster’s Singaporean colleagues definitely can drink, not sure if it’s cheaper over here or what but they ordered three bottles of Chivas -_-” After gulping down the first glass, i kept drinking Coke and thankfully the colour is the same so no one bothered to ask me to drink more of Chivas.

I was so tired that i ended up sitting down in one corner and watched whatvever football match that was on tv. One thing of this unknown bar was they played good music. It wasn’t those thrashy songs that you get in typical hardcore pubs.

…and that’s how I spent my Deepavali weekend ….

This is my first time attending to an acoustic concert and it’s definitely not the last. Live & Loud KL: Acoustic consisted of Dayang Nurfaizah, Rick Price and James Morrison. The show started in that very order with Dayang singing a few of her songs as well as singing a cover from Christina Aguilera. Then it was Rick Price’s turn to entertain. He sang quite a number of blues and ended with Heaven Knows. With all due respect to the two artists but I was pretty sure more than ninety percent of the attendees were there mainly because of James Morrison, period. Girls just kept screaming for him. There’s even one part towards the end where one of the girls somehow manages to get herself on the stage to pass him flowers before security pulled her down.

The videos that i manage to take were amateurish. I would have to warn you though, as watching it could induce vomiting as my hand was constantly shaking It’s still watchable even after reducing the quality substantially.

None of us brought any camera so i resorted to my handphone which turned out pretty bad. Pictures aside, Morrison did put in a lot of energy during his performance and it can even be heard through his singing. He even manage to crack some jokes in between songs

At the end, James Morrison came back again after the crowds started cheering, “Encore encore”. He ended the night with The Last Goodbye.

Initially i was suppose to have steamboat with Bernard, Weng Chong and gang at the ever so famous Steamboat restaurant at Sunway but since we left late and didn’t want to be queuing up, we changed venue to Lao Ma Zi which is on the Puchong Perdana side of the LDP. I was told that Lao Ma Zi means Mother

The place definitely looked more class compared to the previous planned venue.

I like the way the pot is divided as such rather than the common method of having two pots. The choices were quite limited in my opinion but it was enough to make me full. I took more of laap cheong and mushrooms … and of course ice cream. One thing i noticed about this place was one particular waitress. She was the only one without a cap and did have make up on. She definitely can make heads turn and she definitely did it with our table too -_-” We tried so many times to get a photo of her but she was just walking too fast. Weng Chong said based on her slang, she’s definitely from China.

The girls saw how pathetic we were trying to get her picture and they decided to take matter into their own hands.

Yueh Sin called her over and asked if she could take a picture with her and without any hesitation she agreed She could probably be one of the hottest waitress to date. Hahaha.

We carried on eating till our stomachs couldn’t take in anymore.

It was that long you know, Wendy was telling Johnny about something, shrimps i think.

Weng Chong paid for the bill and of course the same waitress came by again. Maybe that’s why Weng Chong decided to pay, hahaha. Later i found out from Yuen Sin that the waitress is the boss’s girlfriend. No wonder i realized one man kept eyeing her moves from a nearby counter.

This place is definitely a breath of fresh air for steamboat restaurants.

After that we headed to Sunway Piramid to catch Hitman. The movie was so-so only. It was too choppy for my liking.

Before heading back, we dropped by at Starbucks and none of us drank coffee since it was already close to midnight.

If you didn’t know, at the stroke of midnight it was Weng Chong’s birthday which explains why he paid for the steamboat. So Happy Birthday Weng Chong and thanks for the food
