Last weekend was the 10th convocation for MMU and i was there busy kaypo-ing on the 1st and 2nd day. For the 1st day i was there to see Steven and on the 2nd day i was there to see Lih Ren. This time around, there were more soft toys and different flower vendors unlike previous years where it was all under one person.

With the current economy situation (though it’s getting better), people do tend to get something cheap but worth the money. Flowers are just overpriced.

But then again, it’s not going to change anything. This coming Saturday is Dolphin’s convo and i am definitely getting her flowers. Wouldn’t want to know what’s the after effect of not doing so.

Just after 12pm, graduates came gushing out from the Grand Hall and everyone was looking for someone. Phone calls, yelling, some with signboards …

The sweltering heat made finding friends or family member harder. But it’s definitely better than if it’s raining. The first day of convo saw less graduates and i assumed that’s because most graduates are from Faculty of Management.

Most of the time on the first day, i roamed around with Weng Choong and Corrine and occasionally bumped into Wendy.

More and more people were with DSLR

Speaking of DSLRs, yesterday night i was at the Ogawa function in the Pavillion and had the chance to use Nicole’s 500D. It was really nice lerrrrr T.T But there’s no way i am gonna jump from 400D to 500D, kinda ridiculous. To make matters worse, just before the function ended i got to know Casey and he showed his 50D T.T

Torture man. The 400D shall stay on until something else appears, like 60D lol.

Was suppose to be at the Curve for Digi’s Music Revolution then last minute changes with Yat and i was in Pavillion.

Back to the topic, after some hunting around i finally bumped into Steven and Jess. With so many things going on, we had to snap pictures fast cause everyone is constantly moving around. I also had the chance to meet Steven’s family and help them take a family photo

Second day of convo started off the same, just that there were slightly more people. Flowers like the above were selling fast. It seemed to be the ‘in thing’ to give artificial flowers nowadays

After a few failed phone calls, i finally got through and found out where Lih Ren was waiting with his family. Seriously right, Lih Ren’s brother looked so much like him. Right down to the goaty !

When i got back that day, i was kinda bored and ended up with the picture below.

Next year is my turn

So last weekend was MMU’s convocation and i was there to help photograph for William. I reached the Grand Hall close to 12.30pm which was when the graduates will be allowed to leave. The place wasn’t as pack as previous years where part of the buildings surrounding the Grand Hall wasn’t fully completed.

I met so many people, those who have graduated years back and those who are still in MMU.

For the first time, i tried editing using photoshop. Previously i have only used photoshop to watermark and resize my pictures. Since William and David had been telling me how they have used PS (photoshop in short) to edit their photos, i thought of giving it a try. I didn’t do much except play around with the filter to get the effect of the first picture you see in this entry.

Back to the convocation, as much as i wanted to snap a lot of pictures i returned with a disappointing amount. Neverthesless, i i think it’s more than enough to have an entry written.

That was for the first day of convocation which consisted of Engineering and Management students. The next day i dropped by for a while to see Jess who was graduating from the IT faculty. Sunday was meant for Engineering students from the Melaka side and IT students from Cyberjaya campus.

I was barely there for 20mins before i had to leave. So sad. If not i would have had gone round taking more pictures.

To those who have graduated recently, from both UM and MMU – congratulations

MMU Enchanted Night 2008 @ Marriot Putrajaya was quite disappointing @_@ That’s the only thing that i can say about last Sunday’s prom night. The food was terrible, the deco was out and somehow i felt there was no flow in terms of the program. As i was talking to Chee Way, we both agreed that last year’s Prom Nite was much better, i mean REALLY BETTER.

Thank God for the crowd and luckily my table kept cracking jokes if not i would have bored myself to death.

Just as i was getting ready for the night, i realized:

1) I brought a short sleeve shirt instead of long sleeve -_-”

2) I brought the wrong pants for my coat -_-”

3) I brought white socks instead of black socks -_-”

Probably by now most of you would have skipped what i have said and zoomed into the pictures @_@ I barely took any pictures in the ballroom because 90% of the time, my cam was hijacked by Leau @_@ Yeah hijacked, not even kidnapped. So i had to resort to using my handphone to snap pictures @_@ Our table had a great laugh because Leau basically went to any group of girls and snapped their pictures. He was so adamant in getting it that he even shoved a girl to the side who was about to take a picture of her friends and instead he went up and said Cheese ! Snap ! LOL

So Leau ! Thanks for being the cameraman most of the time, hehehe. And as requested i never deleted any of your shots, LOL

Obviously by running around and snapping, a lot of pictures didn’t turn out well. Further more with me not having my flash, it just made matters worst @_@

I would be lying if I’d say i don’t feel a thing about my friends going their separate ways soon. It has been bugging me these couple of days, thinking of the prospects of not able to see them again. And i am not saying this to only the people whom i have gotten close with during these past few years but i am also referring to the rest, even my hi-bye friends.

I would be lying if I’d say lunch and dinner are still gonna be the same. Next time around, i will be on my own for all meals. No more surprise outings, no more eating at funny places …

Time passes by so quickly that i never manage to bid goodbye to some of my friends. So i am taking this opportunity to wish to all my fellow friends who are graduating, all the very best in your future undertakings and good luck !

E-Nite is back and for certain reasons i am pretty excited cause i don’t have to go through another U-Nite. E-Nite, probably the most anticipated event for any engineering student was held in the Palace of Golden Horses.

As usual, i never spent anything on clothes. I only forked out for my ticket. Lingster on the other hand had to, i mean not like she wanted to but was more like forced to do so. If girls tried saving money on something, they will eventually spend it on something else, ahem.

I reached there approximately 7pm and was kind of surprised to see less people than expected.

Lingster checked our table and no one was there. We waited at the entrance till the crowd picked up.

Finally about 7.30pm the entrance was buzzing with people around and flashes from cameras were everywhere. Besides dining and being entertained, prom is one of the only time where everyone gets to take photos with the peers, in style.

Unfortunately, my camera is an old 3.2megapixel ixus and even LiShih laughed at the condition of my camera -_-” Don’t be surprised to see off focused pictures in this post cause i don’t have much to pick from.

Sim Ee Wei – one of the few Penangites from Group B. Has shown me the right place to eat in Penang. I will never forget the time when he brought me and the rest to Sungai Udang and i told him, if it’s going to be disappointing, i will drive to Ipoh for chicken rice since i am already on the way. He guaranteed that i wouldn’t have to do that Love to have him around as he has always been jovial and because of him, i like to gamble … ahem. Peace

Didn’t expect him to propose to me on that night itself. Lingster was puzzled when she took the photo.

Okok, serious …

Tan Jee Wei – was the first person whom i made friends with when i first stepped into MMU. I remember him coming up to me and asking if i was the same person in his English tuition Most of the penangites in Group B are from Mainland. Only Jee Wei and i were from the island. We had to change bus either at the toll in Jawi or Butterworth before heading to the island. Ardent Man United fan and is one of the two people whom i talk about Man United. The other person would be Sue Anne

Gusman – People were already puzzled with my name and i was puzzled with his. Also part of the group B during EEP. Got to know him even better when he become my housemate in Alpha. He had a collection of … that amazed me. He used to blast his speakers with those weird noise and girls from the opposite block in Emerald Park would be shouting. I wonder if Chiaw Yin, MingChu or Vivien heard anything >_<" Also another fan of Man United and he has an eye for goals. I always hate to be the keeper whenever he is on the opposing team :P David Liow – one word, tall. Just like Gusman, he was also my housemate back in Alpha. I always admired his guitar skills. I am not sure if it’s you (David) or Wei Chung who played some tune over the phone to some girl on the next block and all of us monkey-ed around. One of the most memorable moments i can remember about him was F1. I think it was 2003 when i met him at the F1 Circuit. His father gave me a lift back from Sepang to Melaka but we had to stop at his house first. Nope it was nothing about the trip but it was the dinner. His mum prepared so many dishes and i was invited to dine. As i was eating his mum kept asking me to eat more and obviously i was kinda shy. Then she said something that almost got me choked, ” I cooked all extra for you “. Even david didn’t eat much and i had to finish at least of one the dishes That’s why now i fit well in my blazer, ahem …. jk jk.

Amri – Blame Canada, Blame Canada, Blame Canada. To those who don’t know the tune, check for old episodes of Southpark. Coming into MMU, i never had any friends who had slang and he was probably one of the first few, besides Adli. He had this cool Sony phone which could record your voice and use it as a ringtone. I know almost any phone can do that now but at that time, everyone was in the 3310 club and he wasn’t. I am not sure who or was it even me, recorded, “F*ck you” and left it as his ringtone. He never allowed any of us to touch his phone again.

Another Lim, Nicholas – my ex room mate for Beta. Suppose to have a Kenari club with him but i ditched the idea and went for the MyVi club. Thought me a lot regarding softwares especially in photoshop. I realised everything he has, had to be systematic and in order. From desktops, to his table and bed. At times he is quiet but you have to know him well to know that he is one chatterbox. When my mum found out i was staying with him, she asked how come you have so many friends with the surname Lim ? Helped me so much in E-Run, especially in making last minute certs for the participants when we found out one stack was missing

Lih Ren aka Hitler – I used to call him Hitler but i thought it was inappropriate after sometime. Though he wasn’t in group B but we still had some connection from some where, can’t really remember how. Always made fun with my name and keep relating it to Japan and it’s suppose to be some girl’s name and all. Just for your information, he goes round disguising himself as V for Vendetta.

Jian – was Sim’s housemate in Alpha and that’s how i got to know him and also Eu Jin. In alpha, he came over to my place in EP and asked everyone to take off their shirts and stand in front of the mirror. After that he asked one by one to bend over in a hunching position. As one of us did, he laughed and asked, “You see that bulge over your left shoulder ???”. Victim replied, ” Ya, what about it ?”. He replied, ” You use your left hand is it ? ” and everyone burst into laughter. That night, i saw a few people trying out in front of the mirror by themselves to see if it worked >_<"

Lingster, Sim and Ah Fai. Speaking of Ah Fai, he was in group A if i am not mistaken but i used to drop by his room in Alpha cause Juon Wor was his room mate. Eventhough he wasn’t staying with us at that time, he still joined us whenever we had anything going on, eg. gambling, ahem. In Beta he always the one who will initiate all to CS or warcraft. Having the latest tech and gadget is a norm. Whenever i talk about something, Ah Fai most probably has it or had it

My camera has to be dead still and so are the people, to make sure i have a perfect picture and not like the one above. If you noticed Sim just zoomed in like Superman and i had so many people doing the Superman move. One or two is alright but having a bunch is an eye sore. I can’t even pick a decent picture of some of my friends.

One good example is this picture over here. Lingster was busy focusing on something else and we all decided to zoom in out of a sudden. What a bunch of useless heroes …. hahahaha.

Almost two months back, i blogged about my participation along with Lingster and Khek Yang in a 3G competition which was held at KLCC. We did our best and we came out short. When i say that we came out short, i meant really really short. The first team arrived 60 seconds earlier than us and in between that another team sneaked in right ahead of us. So we were third.

Everyone knew that there’s only one winner and the winner will get 3 units of 6680. The rest, nothing.

Two months passed by and last Sunday, i received a sms saying there would be free dinner and prize giving ceremony at Hard Rock Cafe. I immediately called up Lingster and she too received the sms but replied to them that she can’t make it as she’s in Penang. Same goes to Khek. He called me moments after i ended my call with Lingster.

This is the first time i am dining in Hard Rock Cafe, simply because it’s hardcore expensive.

We were given a different menu to choose from as there’s a budget set by the sponsors. We had to choose one starter, one main course, one dessert and one drink.

We started off with Smoked Chicken, Spinach & Artichoke Dip. It’s comprised off tortilla chips, salsa and the special dip.

We didn’t know it cost that much till we referred back to the actual menu. Personally i think, it wasn’t worth it. I rather have the chicken wings.

Then came to the main course. Our table had a hard time choosing. We wasted like 10-15 minutes deciding what to take and in the end we took the one which sounded good -_-”

At first only 4 out of 5 of us ordered the chicken, then Alan joined the bandwagon after seeing ours.

In terms of portion, it’s pretty big and i myself couldn’t finish my half chicken.

Disaster

Then it was time for dessert. Since we knew the portion were big, instead of ordering 5 desserts, we decided to share so we could have more variety.

We took their Homestyle Cheesecake. I felt damn bloody fat after having one scoop of this sinful cake. I was suppose to take care of my diet but i just couldn’t help it

Then we ordered Apple Cobbler. It had chunks of apple, caramel sauce and a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on the large scoop of ice cream. This was terrible. It was too sweet for my liking. Every scoop i took, i had to drink some water. I ended up eating the ice cream alone and left the rest there.

We knew we had 3 more desserts to order, so we ordered the same thing -_-”

When all of us (including other attendees) finished out dessert, the organizers started the prize giving ceremony and i could see all the happy faces receiving their new 3G phones. Oh, just if you didn’t know, there were like 6 or 7 competitions held through that one week and the one Khek, Lingster and I joined was called the LBS competition. It’s sort of like a treasure hunt but the map is in the phones provided and we had to use it to find out the coordinates.

I didn’t expect much eventhough they had given me some hint that my team would get something. What i had in my mind was a big hamper, filled with sweets -_-”

But i was wrong. I was handed 3 small boxes which had Nokia logo printed all over it.

Like i have said in my previous post that it has been raining cats and dogs lately. And now it has gone into the 5th straight day that it rains in the evening. Yesterday it rained slightly ahead of schedule and right away i knew this is not a normal evening rain.

As i was reading my notes, drips of rain water started dripping in from the window. Later on, it started pouring in as though some one aimed a hose right to my window. Immediately i closed it. I walked over to the other window which wasn’t affected like mine and peeped out to see the surrounding.

This is what i saw from my window and you could see muddy, murky water around the carpark area. At that point of time, i sent out a message to those in my YM list, warning them of a possible flood. At the same time, i thought it would be fun to see how fast would the message return to me. My screen was filled with my forwarded message within seconds.

Water started filling up the carpark as the rain continued to pour. Noticed the MyVi ? I think it should be a few months old only, judging from the number plate. The owner didn’t realize what was happening.

My forwarded message kept popping out for the next 10 minutes and at least i know i have done something to warn the owners. Take note of the orange object in the picture above. I am not sure what is it called, temporary divider ? What ever it is called, look at the one behind the MyVi, not the one beside.

Now where is it ?

The cars parked at the end of the carpark were the worst i think. At least the water didn’t go higher than the tyres but it’s bad enough to cover up the exhaust pipe. After like 10-15 minutes, a few owners started appearing and one by one moved the vehicle to higher grounds.

After half an hour of heavy down pour, it stopped. It stopped almost instantaneously. I popped my head out of the window again and could see that the water started receding.

Water started gushing down the drains, manholes, anywhere possible.

The sun tried to peep through those dark clouds which will be back again, every evening. I like when it rains because everything seems to be greener and fresh right after that. But i hate it when it rains on every single day. I can hardly go out in the evenings for a simple brisk walk.

You know i mentioned about the forwarded message i did, well the last one that came to me today morning at 8am -___-”
