The World Premier Screening of Enthiran by TGV Cinemas

Published by in movie on October 1st, 2010

This is the first time i am attending for a premier of a Tamil movie, in fact i think it’s a world premier since the chosen ones are watching it a day earlier than the rest of the world. This was made possible by TGV Cinemas.

I have heard a lot about this movie ever since the songs were released (composed by A.R. Rahman) and it’s leading actor and actress were Super Star Rajnikanth and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai!

We all met up at Starbucks for a meet and greet session. Here’s where i met up with Saravanan, Rames, Puva, Selian, Harinder and also some of the TGV’s representatives. Coffee and pastry were on the house and it was nice to see how everyone has been anticipating for this movie.

enthiran 012 The World Premier Screening of Enthiran by TGV Cinemas

Realizing that, i thought why don’t i just post up a photo of the ticket i got. I got quite a number of replies and emails on how in the world did i get it. Well it was all thanks to Harinder icon biggrin The World Premier Screening of Enthiran by TGV Cinemas

After a while, TGV’s new CEO, Kenny Wong (@kennywong) joined us. Sorry Kenny, i don’t have a better shot of you and thank you so much for the invites! Kenny was telling how the print for this movie only arrived last minute and the amount of work that had to go into distributing it around in time.

We also met up with one of the programmers for TGV and he was saying they were working all around the clock to satisfy the demand from all outlets. Tickets were all snapped up for this week in fact and some customers were willing to pay a staggering RM 100 !

We then adjourned to the cinemas and that’s where i realized quite a number of celebrities were there as well.

Especially him !

Super Star Rajnikanth spotted in the cinema watching the World Premier of Enthiran!

Or probably it’s only a big big fan who dressed up like him. Wonder how did he watch the movie with his glasses but like everyone seated around me said, if you wear your sunglasses like Rajni then anything can happen! HAhahahahaha icon biggrin The World Premier Screening of Enthiran by TGV Cinemas

We had complimentary Popcorn and Coke prepared on our seats as we settled down.

I am not gonna say anything about the movie except that,

… Aishwarya Rai is super hawt!

In terms of Indian cinema, i would say this movie is definitely worth the wait. I finally clicked well with the songs after watching it on cinema. Love the cinematography!

The 2nd half of the movie was little bit lengthy for me but all in all, it’s one movie that you have to watch ! Director Shankar definitely made good use of Rajnikanth. And i also like how they slit jokes here and there. Really cracked me up!

My rating for this movie is 8/10!

iPhone 4: Maxis better? Digi cheaper? Who to go for?

maxisdigi1 iPhone 4: Maxis better? Digi cheaper? Who to go for?

I know it’s not one of the best photo shopped pictures out there but as long as it serves it’s purpose, hehehe. There’s so much news, tweets, facebook updates regarding iPhone4 lately. Malaysia finally will be getting this phone, along with China, Philippines, Thailand and even Turkey.

People have been asking me as well, who to go for?

Digi? or Maxis?

During the last model, iPhone 3Gs Digi had the obvious cheaper package. I was then stuck to my current contract to Maxis thus all i had to do was wait for the next launch.

Now that its finally here and after comparing both plans, i honestly couldn’t decide which was cheaper and so i typed out all on Excel to compare.

You see for me data plan is very important, like super important. Why? Cause i have been getting screwed on and off by Maxis billing department for exceeding my allocated bandwidth. Even when i’ve turned off my data under Settings.

So that got me into a frenzy on whether i should just try out Digi or maintain where i am and probably fix a limit with Maxis.

digi VS maxis iphone4 iPhone 4: Maxis better? Digi cheaper? Who to go for?

Now that there isn’t a common comparison except the allocated data which works for me. I thought comparing based on data would be a good benchmark. Further more i am only looking at both the cheapest package as i am always at a wifi-enabled area.

So looking at the chart above, who is actually cheaper? Clearly in the long run (24months) Digi is cheaper.

Let’s use iPhone4 32Gb model as an example. Under Maxis, you would end up paying RM 4190 and under Digi, RM 4002. Remember, this is for a 2 years contract. That works up to RM 188 savings and if you do auto-billing with Digi, they reduce your bill by another RM 5/month. So it comes up to RM 308 for 2 years which is RM 12.83 monthly savings under Digi.

This is also the same for the 16Gb model. A savings of RM 12.83 montly with autobilling ( RM 308 savings for 2 years). Thanks zen for pointing out my mistake icon wink iPhone 4: Maxis better? Digi cheaper? Who to go for?

Personally 2 years contract is just too long for me, who knows what the future holds, lol. So i am obvious opting for a 1 year contract.

As for you, if you have the choice between Maxis and Digi. Here’s a few things you have to take into account:

1) Make sure there’s 3G coverage in your area. This one most likely have to be done if you opt for Digi.

2) Make sure there’s 3G coverage in your area. This one most likely have to be done if you opt for Digi.

3) Make sure there’s 3G coverage in your area. This one most likely have to be done if you opt for Digi.

Talk time is also important to most of you out there. So please do compare how much each telcos are offering. As for the cheapest package under Maxis, iValue1 (RM 100) it’s 333minutes. iDigi88 (RM 63) offers 200 minutes and iDigi 138 (RM 93) offers 450 minutes.

I had a Digi number a few months back cause my Maxis bill keeps blowing up with my frequent calls to a Digi number. But i recently canceled it because i just couldn’t get a constant 3G connection when i move about. And Edge just doesn’t cut it for me.

Besides surfing the net, checking emails, tweeting and what not, i also utilize my monthly bandwidth by making calls via Skype. I am already given 500Mb monthly (old Maxis iValue1 package) and now with 1Gb plus 333minutes, i think i am staying put with Maxis. Sorry Angeline (she’s with Digi) icon smile iPhone 4: Maxis better? Digi cheaper? Who to go for?

For those who wanna jump ship but retain their numbers, you can go through this process called Port-In. But please understand that the sales people earn LESS when a customer Ports-In thus the shitty customer service. A new number registration has a higher commission for them.

*update: just realized that Digi’s 2 years contract only has warranty for 1 year. Maxis on the other hand, gives 2 years warranty. 1 year standard by Apple + 1 year by Maxis themselves. Awaits Digi for any update.

Conclusion: If you are looking at a one year contract, there’s only one place obviously and that’s Maxis.

For 24months, Digi is cheaper as your monthly commitment increases. If you look at the table again, for the same Data allocation Maxis is considerably more expensive but you can’t deny that their coverage is so much superior compared to Digi.

But if you are aiming for the cheapest package, then i think just stick to your current telcos!

… and if that still doesn’t work for you, just get yourself a non-smartphone or a Blackberry.

StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0005 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

I’ve always heard mum’s friends talk about their holidays on a cruises and every one of them told that it’s a must-go for any holiday goers. Usually the cheapest one would be the cruise to nowhere. Even with that, i have seen packages being priced more than RM 1500 for a short trip.

There’s a reason why you see majority of the passengers on cruise trips are usually the elderly.

However, StarCruises.com did a promotion in Penang for a 2days 1night cruise to nowhere for a mere RM 60! (about 15-20USD). Of course that was good enough to convince me to try it out. RM60 would get you on the cruise but without any room, thus it’s known as standing package. For those who plan to play all night and don’t mind dozing on couches or even at the cinema could simply go for the standing package.

Angeline and i discussed and decided to go on a Friday evening, right after work. Not knowing if we could last through the night, we got ourselves the cheapest cabin which worked out to RM 120 per person. I made the reservation through phone (03-23021288) and was later asked to bank in the money via Maybank. I later faxed the slip to the lady who attended to me and within an hour or so i got my confirmation email. It was all very easy.

0001 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

After work, we zoomed off to Swettenham Pier which is near the Penang Jetty for those who don’t know. We parked our car opposite the immigration office. The carpark attendant asked if we were boarding the cruise and we said Yes and asked why? He said it’s a flat rate of RM7 and it’s only for cruise goers. Knowing that the car would be in a safe spot, we walked towards the port and from a far we could see the huge Pisces. Of course comparing it to it’s fleet, it’s probably the smallest. But for a Penang fella like me, as long as it’s bigger than our ferries, it’s BIGGG icon razz StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0017 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

There were two separate lines; those who have paid and those who are walking in. Usually it’s not easy to walk in and be able to board, especially if it’s a weekend. Everything here was very systematic.

0015 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0022 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

We were asked to surrender our ICs and in exchange we were given their StarCruises cards for identification. Once we have done that, we were ushered to board the Pisces.

0032 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0036 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

As we entered, we used our StarCruises Card to gain access at the security checkpoint. We then got lost some how while trying to figure out where’s our room.

0046 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

We finally found an information board that actually explained everything.

0047 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

We walked and walked …

0049 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

… and finally found the place.

0051 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

For those who complained about how small First World rooms at Genting Highlands are, then you have to check this out. Hahaha. Of course here they try to minimize the space cause people rarely spend time in the rooms.

0057 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

… and our beds. All so cozy.

After settling down, we got explored the Pisces.

0062 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

We went outside, on the deck of the Pisces and saw quite a number of people there. In fact there’s even a family who used some of the lazy chairs to get some shut eye. Probably they got themselves standing tickets thus having no room.

0063 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0065 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

There’s also a swimming pool on the deck and free to be used until 10pm if i am not mistaken. I am not too sure if the pool is heated. The Pisces only disembarked about 8pm-ish. That’s why you can still some lights from the pier in some of the pictures.

0066 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0068 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

After roaming around on the deck, we decided to go in and have our dinner. That alone was another treasure hunt, trying to locate the restaurant icon razz StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0082 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

On the way, we stumbled upon a showcase that showed the champagne bottle that was used to christened the Pisces.

We then asked a counter on where are we to have dinner and they directed us to the Mariners. Dinner and breakfast are included in the price, regardless if you are here on standing package or with a room.

0088 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

As we entered, we were all greeted by the singing and dancing waiters and waitresses  of the Mariners hahaha. If memory serves me well, they were performing YMCA.

0099 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

After dinner we continued exploring the Pisces. We went into the casino and played a few rounds of Roulette. Don’t expect the casino to be as big as the ones in Genting Highlands. In fact the mirrors used on the walls gave the illusion that it was big icon razz StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

We then left the casino and came across a Bingo session was about to start and was duped into joining it. All we had to do was buy the numbered papers and cross it as the numbers are picked at random.

0109 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

Frankly this is one of the activities that is a must join if you ever board the Pisces! Really fun especially if you are as crazy as me where i got bought a few sheets of bingo paper. lol

The whole place was pack to the gills listening diligently as the numbers were called out.

0110 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

After that session, we continued walking. We later realized there’s Karoake bar, a massage parlour, theater.

Before we head back to our room for some well deserved rest, i checked on google maps on our location. We were some where far up north penang, probably out of Malaysian water.

0113 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

Left the tv on timer mode, so that i can watch something before dozing off. Oh yeah, if you realized i am on the upper bunker >.<!

We woke up at about 7am and quickly rushed for breakfast before the whole lot came in.

0122 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

Admiral Suite, probably one of the most expensive rooms on the Pisces.

So as i stepped out to the deck, guess what happened?!

0126 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

I fogged up my lense >.<!

Totally forgot not to leave it directly under the aircond outlet in the room. Had to wait for a good 10 minutes before the camera could get some decent pictures.

0142 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0169 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

0191 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

We could barely open of our eyes as the sun was crazily bright.

0192 StarCruises: Board the Pisces for RM60!

The Pisces finally docked back the Sweetenham Pier at 9am and we got back to our room to get our bags. Before leaving, we got back our ICs. All in all it was a great experience. I mean for the price we paid, i highly doubt such an offer would comeby anytime soon, unless we go for a second time.

I am with no fashion sense

clothes 002 I am with no fashion sense

Last week i made a surprised trip back to Penang for Angeline’s birthday. She didn’t even believe i was back in Penang until i checked into the airport via foursquare. She was already on her way back when i arrived. I met up with her on Saturday and as usual i picked up whatever shirt i had on top of the pile to be worn.

Bad mistake.

When i was in her home waiting for her to get her things ready, she was all dressed up. I mean really really dressed up.

What i had on? A pair of jeans and a black shirt that says, Hard Rock Casino London.

illustrationstuzki010it0 I am with no fashion sense

“You are not walking with me in that hideous shirt!” she said.

She didn’t really say that actually lol. What she did say was, “Why are you wearing that cacat shirt? We are going out for my birthday right?”.

I felt bad.

“What if i drive back home and change into another shirt,” well that’s what i thought i should have said.

But instead …

“This shirt not nice? Ok we go to Gurney Plaza and i will buy a shirt on the spot” i said, thinking she would mellow down and suggest we might as well drive back to my house.

“Can can, like that easier. No need to waste time drive so far” she replied.

T.T

So we went to Gurney plaza and i had to make sure had sufficient cash in hand cause i rarely carry much. I saw a huge crowd at F.O.S and decided to try my luck there.

clothes 006 I am with no fashion sense

Me and my so called hideous shirt T.T

Angeline picked out 2 shirt for me to try and so here they are.

I know most of you are accustomed to seeing girls doing this camwhore-in-changing-room thingy and here i am doing the same -_-!

Nothing biggie but just to show you that how a shirt or in this case 2 shirts made the difference. I ended up having both. Haven’t really bought any for this year and so getting both wouldn’t kill me. Angeline voluntarily sponsored one of it. So nice.

Birthday girl getting present for me lol. The world is changing, definitely.

After that we had Sushi before watching Grown Ups which was simply hilarious !!!

We ended the day by playing Monopoly Deal with her family back at her home. Frankly speaking, this is one crazy game. It’s UNO + Monopoly. Fun fun fun.

Of course being new to the game, i got my ass whooped by everyone T.T

clothes 003 I am with no fashion sense

The night before that we actually tried the Korean food in Kim Gary and my verdict is 2 out of 5. I was basically eating fire -_-!

I could barely taste the food cause everything was hot. Fire hot, not chili hot.

clothes 004 I am with no fashion sense

Just outside of Queensbay is some capalang fun fair and we went there. When i was small, i used to go to Pesta Pulau Pinang where the fun fair was then the most ‘heng’ place to be. We would all go back to class and talk about the crazy rides and how ridiculous some of the ghost looked like.

This fun fair however was damn gila babi expensive.

1 bloody token cost RM 2.

Played a few games and then left. Rather spend the money in Gentings. Nevertheless, my trip back to Penang was quite spontaneous and we just couldn’t care less about complaining.

As to Angeline, Happy Happy Birthday!!! Well it’s belated now icon biggrin I am with no fashion sense

P/S: Carried my DSLR everywhere and took all my shots with my iPhone. I have to force myself to use my DSLR soon, else it’s gonna collect dust.

Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

The next morning we had nothing planned. In fact we all woke up later than usual. Slowly had breakfast and walked the roads of Kuta town. Compared to Kuta’s bustling night life, their morning is totally different.

Shops were slowly being opened, owners offering their prayers for the day in the form of banana leaves folded into a container shape with bananas and flowers in it. Everywhere we went, we saw this offering in front of their shop regardless how big or small their premises were.

IMG 0740 Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

The main area looks rather dull in the morning.

IMG 0742 Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

The only thing left for us to do is to explore Kuta beach and that’s what all of us did. Initial plan was to wear Bali shirt with sarung. But i guess the sarung part was a bit too drastic lol

IMG 0745 Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

Our first impression of the beach was, WTH happened to it?

There were just piles of rubbish all over the place. Locals were all clearing up by hands. Probably the sea brought it to their shores unexpectedly.

IMG 0748 Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

We were then suddenly greeted by a jogger. Well he didn’t exactly greet us but probably asked us to move away, lol.

We continued strolling down the beach.

Getting lessons before going out to the sea for the 2nd time.

We then headed back to our hotel to pack. Before reaching, we walked around to those shops that are already opened. I was looking for a shirt to buy back but ended up buying Angeline a dress. The price at Kuta is slightly more expensive comparatively to Pasar Seni Sukawati. At least we don’t have to go through the tyrant that yelled at us.

I finally found the shirt that i wanted, a Bintang Beer shirt. Now that i have checked that off my to-buy list, we headed back.

We totally forgot about our welcome drink and got it before entering our room. It was more like a GoodBye drink ROFLMAO. This is the only proper photo i have of the pool in Oasis. Looks pretty awesome right ?! icon biggrin Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

Just like Redang, some girls were there sunbathing and they couldn’t be bothered with the amount of guys photographing them.

Not gonna post all the photos cause i found out kids are also reading my blog lol.

After packing we left for the airport.

IMG 0764 Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt

Making our mark on Kuta beach.

At the airport, we took some crazy group shots with Yoga and our driver. I realized how everyone else were looking at us. Hahahaha.

Indon1268 20100119 Bali Day 4: Surfing at Kuta Beach & Bintang Beer Shirt Don’t forget to prepare 150,000 rupiah for their government tax. That works out to about RM 55.50. Without this sticker on your boarding pass, you wouldn’t be allowed to go through.

We had our lunch at the airport and the service was just damn slowwww. Better to have your lunch/dinner somewhere else before departing.

As we left Bali, i sighed in relief because this trip has given me the most headache even prior to the trip. The amount of people who tried to scam/cheat us. Thank God, everything worked in my favour. This is probably the last time i will be having 16 pax in a trip, though we finally had only 13.

On the way back to KL, i was already planning on the next trip which was to Philippines !!! We bought the tickets before this Indonesia trip and all that was left was the itinerary.

People get high on drugs, alcohol …. i get high planning for trips, HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Bali Day 3: Ben Chong has a different meaning in Bali

We headed back to Sri Ratih Cottage after dinner on the 2nd night. We were all free to do anything for the night and so the guys and got into the pool. The ladies on the other hand decided to stay dry and conquered the lobby area hogging their wifi spot; facebook-ing, tweet-ing. It’s like as though we were the only residents in the whole cottage.

We all went back to our rooms after an hour or so for a good night’s sleep. The next morning we had our complimentary breakfast before heading to Kuta Beach for our final night.

I realized i left out pictures of the rooms in Sri Ratih Cottage. Here they are icon biggrin Bali Day 3: Ben Chong has a different meaning in Bali
