1st BeaniePlex in M’sia by TGV Cinemas is in Penang

Published by in penang on January 29th, 2011

I had the chance to be at the Grand Launch of TGV’s new cinema in Penang last week thanks to Kenny Wong, COO of TGV. The cinema has been operating for a few weeks now and it’s conveniently located at 1st Avenue level 8. In fact prior to the invitation, i have watched 2 movies there and i can tell you the seats are awesome. The leg space especially. If there’s still knocks on the back of your chair then it’s definitely on purpose! I arrived slightly late as Angeline could only leave work sharp at 5pm. We were joined by Emily who saw us walking towards the cinema. Upon registering, we were given goodiebags that had potato chips, calendar and a small beanie bag. At this point of time i just didn’t know what has the beanie bag got to do with TGV Cinemas. I spotted Chun Huey and Wah in front and ended up joining them. We were served with cocktails and even had the choice to have beer or shandy. It was later announced that TGV Cinemas in 1st Avenue would be the first cinema to serve beer! Not that i am drinker or what but that’s

How often do you find the right person? ONCE

Published by in movies, music on February 1st, 2008

This is probably the most naturalistic and believable romantic musical you may ever see and hear. Even though the whole movie was shot using camcorder ala Cloverfield but it suited well with the storyline. Initially i was hooked to one of their songs from their OST and after searching high and low for the movie, i finally watched it today. The expectation i had initially was pretty low knowing that this is a low budget movie which cost them $160,000 but managed to rake in $14 mil. The Irish romance ONCE may be a musical, but it is miles away from the traditional Hollywood idea of people bursting into song. Glen Hansard (frontman for indie rock band The Frames) plays the guy, a street musician who is playing for change when he meets the girl (Marketa Irglova), an immigrant from the Czech Republic. The pair immediately bond over their shared love of music (he is a guitarist, and she plays the piano), and the film chronicles their tentative relationship. Both are weighed down by plenty of baggage: his songs are fueled by a painful breakup, and she is a young mother who left her husband behind in her native country.

Steamboat @ Lao Ma Zi

Initially i was suppose to have steamboat with Bernard, Weng Chong and gang at the ever so famous Steamboat restaurant at Sunway but since we left late and didn’t want to be queuing up, we changed venue to Lao Ma Zi which is on the Puchong Perdana side of the LDP. I was told that Lao Ma Zi means Mother The place definitely looked more class compared to the previous planned venue. I like the way the pot is divided as such rather than the common method of having two pots. The choices were quite limited in my opinion but it was enough to make me full. I took more of laap cheong and mushrooms … and of course ice cream. One thing i noticed about this place was one particular waitress. She was the only one without a cap and did have make up on. She definitely can make heads turn and she definitely did it with our table too -_-” We tried so many times to get a photo of her but she was just walking too fast. Weng Chong said based on her slang, she’s definitely from China. The girls saw how pathetic we were trying to

Samurai Sudoku and Stardust

I was summoned by Lingster to accompany her to One Utama as she was taking part in MSIG’s Samurai Sudoku. If you didn’t know, Samurai Sudoku consist of 5 sudoku puzzles shaped like an ‘X’. When we arrived there, most of the participants were wearing their bandana which made the atmosphere all the better. There were 2 catergories which are the NI and SAN. In those 2 categories there were different time slots for different people. Lingster was in the 2.30pm group and since we had time to spare, we went one floor lower to get the James Morrison tickets. We took out a hefty 183 ringgit each and the best part was we met Duncan later in the day where we were told that The Curve had a booth selling the tickets with 20% off -_-” $#%$^%&$^&$%&$

Beowulf sucked and Scattergories

What is your name? Satkuru 4 letter word: Soup Vehicle: Subaru City: San Francisco Guy’s Name: Simon Girl Name: Sarah Alcoholic drink: Sex on the beach -_-” Something you wear: Sneaker Occupation: Secretary Celebrity: Simon Cowell Food: Sushi Something found in a bathroom: Soap Reason for Being Late: Slept late ? Cartoon character: Superman Something You Shout: Sucks lar ? -_-” (tagged by Wendy) Yesterday i followed Weng Chong, Bernard and Wendy to Sunway to watch Beowulf. First of all the new Sunway building looked sucky and it’s as though they did it in rush and couldn’t come out with a better design. Of all the new/expanded shopping complexes i would say Pavillion had more appeal. So now back to the movie, i am not giving out any spoilers but i have to say the movie would have been better if it was shot in real life. There’s just too much hype for this movie and if it wasn’t for the short jokes, i would have just slept off. Final verdict – Bernard: Wasted my 10bucks ! WengChong: I don’t even know what’s the story about Wendy: …… ME: At least we got to say Angelina Jolie topless in CG,

Life is about choice

Life is about choice, We are all the sum of our choices, And most of them are made for us. You can’t choose when you are born, You can’t choose where you are born, You can’t choose your family, You can’t even choose who you love, But you can choose how you love. Chris Rock in I Think I Love My Wife Though the movie didn’t fare well in the IMDB ratings but there were definitely some good lines from Chris Rock

A French weekend at the Curve

Disappointed. That’s what i can say about Marche. I have heard many of my friends having lunch and dinner in Marche and i thought this place has to be good. Other wise, they wouldn’t have returned for a second time. As for me. it’s definitely my first and last visit to Marche. Lingster and i were at the Curve last weekend and we decided to drop by at Marche for a late lunch. As we were waiting in line, we were showed how their card system worked whereby each patron will be given a card and as we order, the card will be stamped. More or less the same as Food Loft in Gurney Plaza Penang but here they use rubber stamps to mark the card. After getting our table, we walked around to see what we could order. Marche has a very nice setting. It’s more like a Sunday market where you could see fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and poultry but with a European touch. That’s how i knew the meaning of Marche (Marche =Market, in French). To be honest, the choices were quite limited and more over the section for meat and poultry had a rather rude cook.

Transformers – Brings back old memories

Where do i even start ? No, there’s not going to be any spoilers. If possible, go to the cinema and watch it. For once let the vcd/dvd peddlers go out of business I totally enjoyed the movie, from the start to the end and so did Lingster. In fact, movie goers in the cinema even cheered when Optimus Prime appeared. The fighting scene was excellent but some may complain that it was too fast. During the first quarter of the movie, i suddenly heard this sound … transformers … and i recalled how much i missed watching Transformers when i was small. Sadly though, i never owned any Transformers and i ended up building my own robots out of Lasy. In the early 90s, my mum got my brother a Bumblebee and i was so envious of him. He was barely 2 years old and he has a Bumblebee. My ratings for this movie would be pointless cause i would give it a 12 out of 10 …. -_-” (source of images wikipedia)

Batman to be on a 2 wheeler in his upcoming movie

Published by in personal on June 22nd, 2007

I can still remember in one of those Batman movies where his car manages to re-shape and turns out slimmer than usual to get through an alley. I was awed. I assumed only Transformers were able to transform into something different and not Batman’s gadgets. Well it seems now he doesn’t have to do that. Instead he will be doing all his maneuvering in tight spots using a 2 wheeler. Don’t ask me when and why would he need it when he has a bloody-tank-looking-car. Probably the director realized the car wasn’t practical in some of the upcoming tight shots. Unless he was to direct Christian Bale to destroy everything he drives into. Even the 2 wheeler looks ‘chunky’ but it’s still refreshing. Wouldn’t want to see him on a Kawasaki ninja anyway. This is the tank-looking car of his that i mentioned earlier. It does look sophisticated but somehow i have lost touch with his current gadgets compared to the old Batman’s. My all time favourite Batmobile. I even had a picture of me with a replica when there was some roadshow for Batman in Penang back in 1992. The photo cost me 15 bucks ! -_-” Anyway did

Ocean’s 13, Shrek the Third & The Last Mimzy

The Last Mimzy The first half was probably boring. But after that, the plot started picking up. There were some famous characters in the movie, like the prisoner from Green Mile and the Asst. Regional Manager of the Office. If you have really nothing to do and would watch anything to kill your boredom, then the last mimzy wouldn’t be a bad choice. Ratings: 6/10
